Joining The Long Run: A Commitment to the 4Cs at Estancia Los Potreros

We are incredibly proud to announce that Estancia Los Potreros has officially joined The Long Run

A global community of nature-based tourism businesses united by a shared commitment to sustainability. Becoming a member of The Long Run is not just a badge of honour it is a meaningful step forward in our ongoing journey to protect the land we love, support our local community, and offer travellers something truly responsible.

At the heart of The Long Run lies the philosophy of the 4CsConservation, Community, Culture, and Commerce, which together create a framework for holistic sustainability. These are not new concepts for us; in many ways, they’ve been part of our DNA for generations. But joining The Long Run has given us both the structure and the inspiration to go even further.

Conservation: Protecting Our Hills and Wildlife

Estancia Los Potreros is located within a provincial reserve in the Sierras Chicas, a region of unique biodiversity. Our style of organic, low-impact farming encourages native wildlife. From the majestic Andean Condor to shy pumas, foxes, and wild boar.

We actively partner and are looking at new ways to collaborate with environmental authorities to help reintroduce endangered species, and regularly welcome university researchers studying everything from invasive plant control to the impact of wildfires on the ecosystem. Conservation isn't just an initiative here, it’s part of how we live every day.

Community: Investing in Local Lives

Sustainability means nothing without people. That’s why we’re deeply involved with our local rural school, and why our guests support it too - through thoughtful donations and purchases from our small estancia shop. We’re also part of Pack for a Purpose, an initiative that helps travellers contribute meaningfully to the places they visit.

Many of our team have been with us for decades. We provide not just employment, but training, education, and a shared vision for the future. Sustainability starts at home, and that includes our people.

Culture: Keeping Traditions Alive

A stay at Los Potreros is a dive into authentic Argentine country life. From our gaucho heritage and horsemanship to our family recipes and homemade tack, we are passionate about preserving the customs that make our estancia and our region so special.

We believe that cultural sustainability is about more than museums and monuments. It’s about daily life, passed down through generations, and shared with our guests through genuine experiences like riding out across the hills, sipping mate, or learning about rawhide craft.

Commerce: Responsible Business for the Long Run

We believe that sustainable tourism can and should be a successful business model. At Los Potreros, we power the estancia with renewable energy (including a new solar system that cut our petrol use by 70%), grow much of our own food, and operate on a zero food waste policy.

Joining The Long Run has deepened our commitment to ensuring our commercial practices support long-term environmental and social health. Profit should never come at the cost of people or planet.

Why It Matters

We’ve always felt a responsibility to the land, animals, and people who make Los Potreros what it is. Joining The Long Run is both a recognition of our efforts and a challenge to keep improving. It means holding ourselves accountable, learning from a global community of sustainability leaders, and constantly looking for ways to do better.

Because we don’t just want to be here for the next few years we want to be here for the next few generations.
