One of the highlights of our year at Estancia Los Potreros comes on February 2nd - a date we eagerly look forward to. This day marks the La Candelaria Festival at our local church, La Estancita, a deeply rooted tradition that honors the Virgin Mary. It’s a celebration that brings our community together, and we’re proud to share it with our guests each year.
The day begins with a moving Mass, followed by a procession around the stations of the cross. The heart of the event is the statue of the Virgin Mary, which is carefully carried by worshippers. As the procession winds through the streets, gauchos on horseback join the procession, their horses and tack gleaming in the sun, dressed in their finest. The scene is truly one of a kind,s piritual, cultural, and full of local pride.
We’re always honored to attend, and it’s one of the moments that reminds us of the unique family atmosphere of this festival. The mini-gauchos riding in front of their fathers, brothers, and sisters, add a special touch, showing how this tradition is passed down through generations.
Of course, as horse lovers, we’re especially drawn to the sight of the beautifully decorated horses and the intricate gaucho tack. The entire event is a wonderful mix of spirituality, tradition, and community, a must-see for anyone who wants to truly experience local culture in its purest form.
Make sure to mark February 2nd on your calendar if you ever visit Estancia Los Potreros—this festival is one you don’t want to miss!
